Sound of Kiki

Rhode Island School of Design

An embroidered poster that transforms sounds into visual forms. The idea comes from kiki/bouba effect, a non-arbitrary mental association between certain speech sounds and certain visual shapes. Connecting the concept of the kiki/bouba effect with onomatopoeia, Sound of Kiki creates form from sound symbolism. Purposefully employing a satin-textured fabric, I aimed to challenge the perception of kiki’s spikiness.
